We started with a WhatsApp group, a vision, and the firm belief that Anambra's tech talent deserved better than invisibility. Three years later, we're just getting started.
Started as a WhatsApp group of 100 techies before the first meetup brought 30 people together in July 2022.
Anambra has always had talented people. Engineers, designers, product thinkers: sharp minds scattered across Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, and beyond. But there was no way to find each other. No events. No shared network. No sense that a tech community even existed here.
Zikora Chukwuka felt that gap personally. Tech events were happening in Lagos, in Abuja, but not here. Opportunities were passing Anambra by, not because the talent wasn't there, but because it was invisible and unconnected.
So in early 2022, he and co-founder Nweke Kenechukwu started a WhatsApp group. No funding, no office, no grand plan. Just 100 people who felt the same thing and wanted to do something about it. That group became Anambra Techies.
Zikora and Kenechukwu start a WhatsApp group for Anambra techies. 100 members join within weeks, proof that the need was real.
30 people show up to the first in-person gathering in Awka. Food, drinks, conversations that run late. The community officially has a heartbeat.
Regular meetups, Twitter Spaces, mentorship programmes, and job referrals. Membership grows. People start getting hired through the community.
Anambra Techies becomes the largest tech community in the state, with members across Nigeria and the diaspora. Scholarships, hackathons, and the first annual conference.
Talent Directory, Ecosystem Intelligence reports, and a diaspora network. Building infrastructure, not just community, for Anambra's digital economy.
To build the connective tissue of Anambra's tech ecosystem: connecting talent, enabling opportunity, and creating the infrastructure that lets every techie in the state grow, regardless of where they start.
A future where Anambra State is one of Africa's leading digital economies. Where people think about tech in Africa and think about Anambra. Where companies looking to hire world-class talent think about Anambra first.
These aren't words on a wall. They're the rules we hold ourselves to, as a community, as a leadership team, and as individuals.
We are open and honest in everything we do: how we make decisions, how we spend resources, and how we communicate with our community. Trust is built through transparency, not optics.
We believe constant improvement is the engine of our growth. We experiment, we iterate, and we are never satisfied with "good enough", whether that's in our events, our tools, or our thinking.
No tree makes a forest. We grow by working with every stakeholder in the ecosystem: members, companies, government, and universities, because Anambra's digital future is a collective project.
